During Stalking Trial, 30s Man Commits Same Crime... Court Sentences to Prison
Three Phone Calls Made on the Day of Release After Detention Cancellation
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Taewon] A man in his 30s, who was found guilty of stalking, was sentenced to prison again after committing the same crime during the appeal period.
On the 24th, according to the legal community, Judge Kim Woo-jung of the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 8 sentenced Hwang Mo, who was indicted for violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, to one year in prison. The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "Despite being on trial for stalking crimes, he committed the crime again on the day he was released after his detention was canceled," and "He also has a history of multiple punishments including imprisonment or suspended sentences for similar and different crimes."
Hwang was brought to trial on charges of repeatedly calling the victim against her will, causing her anxiety and fear. It is known that on October 21 of last year, the day he was released after being detained for stalking crimes, he called the victim three times and said things like "How have you been lately?", "Don't you have anything to say?", and "This is the last time, honey."
Previously, on December 10, 2021, he attempted 64 phone calls over two hours and was subject to a provisional restraining order from the court. However, violating this order, he visited the victim's residence and called her 27 times again, leading to his detention and indictment on January 6 of last year.
