Gyeonggi-do to Continue 'Report and Reward System' for Environmental Pollution Violations This Year
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is operating a reward system for reporting environmental pollution acts and urged residents to actively report such incidents.
Environmental pollution reports can be made 24/7 throughout the year via the National E-People system, local government websites, telephone, or mail. If administrative actions are taken based on the pollution report, the reporter can receive a reward ranging from 50,000 KRW to a maximum of 3,000,000 KRW.
Last year, the province received 183 reports (115 air pollution cases, 67 water pollution cases, and 1 case involving both air and water pollution). After on-site inspections and checks, administrative penalties such as fines were imposed on 32 cases. Serious violations were also reported to judicial authorities. Separate rewards were given to the reporters.
Rewards are paid via bank transfer or by mail in the form of gift certificates. Security is maintained to ensure that the identity of reporters is not leaked and that they do not suffer any disadvantages.
Im Yang-seon, Director of the Provincial Environmental Management Office, emphasized, "We will do our best to promptly respond to reports of environmental pollution acts to prevent the spread of pollution and to implement trustworthy administration."
