LG Uplus Delivers Gifts to Elderly Living Alone for Seollal Holiday
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced on the 17th that it delivered 127 sets of salted seafood gift sets to the Yongsan Welfare Foundation for elderly people living alone in Yongsan-gu ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
This donation was prepared with the purpose of revitalizing rural fishing villages and promoting coexistence with the local community. The gift sets were prepared using the Rural-Fishing Village Win-Win Cooperation Fund contributed by LG Uplus, featuring specialty products from domestic rural fishing areas. The Rural-Fishing Village Win-Win Cooperation Fund is a fund contributed by private companies and operated by the Large and Small Business and Agricultural Cooperation Foundation to support the sustainable development of rural fishing villages that have been or may be affected by Free Trade Agreements (FTA).
Previously, LG Uplus, together with the Yongsan Welfare Foundation, collected opinions on necessary items for elderly people living alone and decided on salted seafood, which can be stored for a long time, as the gift item. Each gift set is worth about 50,000 KRW and consists of three types of salted seafood: octopus salted seafood, pollack roe salted seafood, and squid salted seafood.
Lee Hong-ryeol, Head of ESG Promotion at LG Uplus, said, “We are very pleased to share warm hearts with places in the local community that need help and to participate in helping elderly people living alone through the delivery of holiday gift sets. We will continue to seek various social contribution activities to deliver sincere sharing to neighbors in need of help.”
Park Ki-chan, Chairman of the Yongsan Welfare Foundation, said, “The salted seafood sets will greatly help solve meal problems for elderly people living alone. We express our gratitude to LG Uplus for their careful attention and practice of sharing for elderly people living alone in the district.”
Meanwhile, LG Uplus continues various sharing activities for coexistence with the local community. In December last year, it held the ‘2022 Year-End Sharing Bazaar,’ where employees auctioned off their cherished items and donated the proceeds. About 80 employees from the Public Relations and External Cooperation Center voluntarily participated in this event held over two days from December 15 to 16, raising about 2 million KRW in donations. LG Uplus plans to purchase side dish sets for elderly people living alone with the funds raised through the bazaar and deliver them to the Huam-dong Community Service Center in Yongsan-gu on the 18th.

Additionally, a total of 50 employees participated in the ‘U+ Hope Santa’ activity, directly giving Christmas presents to children at the Yongsan-gu Yeongnak Borinwon. This event was conducted by pre-collecting the gifts and stories that underprivileged children wanted, and matching employees who applied to participate in the sharing activity with children one-on-one to purchase gifts.
