30 Farms Cultivate Using Eco-Friendly Compost
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] The shipment of high-quality Jindo Hwanggeumbong and Redhyang, which are in season with high sugar content and full flesh, rich in juice, is in full swing.
According to Jindo-gun on the 16th, quality control is being strengthened by shipping only fruits with a sugar content of 13 Brix or higher and above a certain size standard, and currently 30 farms (6.1 hectares) are cultivating using eco-friendly compost.
Rich in juice and vitamin C, and with a good texture, orders are pouring in nationwide ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
In particular, they are actively sold in 3kg, 5kg, and 10kg box packaging through direct consumer transactions.
This year, about 130 tons are expected to be produced, generating farm income of about 1.3 billion won.

Hwanggeumbong and Redhyang, representative specialty products of Jindo-gun, have higher income per cultivation area than Jindo green onions, and cultivation began in 2008. The region boasts about 1,200 more hours of annual sunlight than other areas, adequate rainfall, and a marine climate.
Also, the Agricultural Technology Center is promoting the dissemination of technologies to improve marketability, such as △support for new variety superior seedlings △customized professional technical consulting △cultivation education △distribution of smart farms and unmanned pest control systems.
An official from the Jindo-gun Agricultural Technology Center said, “Jindo Hwanggeumbong and Redhyang are produced in a clean area with warm sea breezes, clean water, and soil, and once you taste them, you will definitely come back for their deep flavor and aroma.”

Meanwhile, Jindo-gun plans to increase the budget for horticultural technology pilot projects from 800 million won last year to 1.8 billion won this year, aiming to increase agricultural income centered on regionally specialized crops in response to climate change.
