Lee Jae-myung to Personally Take Charge of Opposition's 'Basic Society Committee Chair'... Expected to Launch Next Week
Full-Scale Implementation Plan for the "Gibon Sahoe" Vision
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has decided to personally take on the role of chairman of the party’s Basic Society Committee to support the 'Basic Society' initiative.
A Democratic Party leadership official stated in a phone interview with Asia Economy on the 15th, "Lee has decided to take on the chairmanship," adding, "The committee is set to launch next week."
This is interpreted as Lee’s intention to directly lead the policy implementation, given his emphasis on the Basic Society concept.
Earlier, on the 12th, during a New Year press conference, Lee announced his vision for the 'Basic Society' policy covering all areas including income, housing, and finance. He also stated plans to establish a Basic Society Committee within the party.
He further explained that through this committee, policies such as abolishing the couple reduction in basic pensions, providing basic income for the elderly, and basic income for rural areas would be implemented.
The specific appointments and organizational scale of the Basic Society Committee have not yet been finalized.
