[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Sinseong Traditional Market, which has been located in Junggok 4-dong, Gwangjin-gu for over 50 years, has been officially recognized as a traditional market.
Sinseong Traditional Market, established in 1972, is a representative market of Gwangjin-gu with a history of around 50 years. The land area reaches 12,801.8㎡, and it houses 120 stores. Even after a long time, it has continued to function as a traditional market and has become a beloved place for local residents.
The district office promptly proceeded with the traditional market certification and merchants' association registration process upon the request of the Sinseong Traditional Market Merchants' Association (President Song Byung-ho) on the 6th. Then, after joint efforts with local merchants on the 10th, it was officially recognized based on the ‘Special Act on the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts’.
The market met all the stringent criteria required for traditional market recognition, including ▲number of stores ▲number of service-providing stores ▲land area ▲consent requirements ▲market continuity. Regarding the merchants' association registration, about 90% of the total 120 merchants showed approval, demonstrating a high consent rate.
With recognition as a traditional market, it can register as an Onnuri gift certificate affiliated store and participate in various traditional market revitalization support projects conducted by Gwangjin-gu and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
On the 13th, District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho personally presented the certification plaque, saying, “I thank the merchants and residents of Sinseong Traditional Market who have continuously worked hard despite the difficult process,” and added, “Since traditional markets embody the lives and culture of our residents, we will provide generous support.”
The district is making efforts to revitalize the traditional market through the ‘Traditional Market Facility Modernization Project,’ installing systems such as parking control, CCTV, and smart fire alarm systems. Additionally, during this Lunar New Year holiday, they plan to inject vitality by holding prize giveaways and an all-staff shopping event.
