Goheung-gun Establishes Itself as the Undisputed 'No.1 Destination for Returning Farmers and Rural Migration'

Five Consecutive Years of Awards in the Returning to Farming and Rural Living Urban Category

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 13th that it has been selected in the rural return and migration city category of the ‘2023 Korea Brand Hall of Fame’ hosted by the Industrial Policy Research Institute (IPS), achieving the remarkable feat of winning for five consecutive years.

The Industrial Policy Research Institute (IPS) selected brands by evaluating management performance, brand value, customer satisfaction, marketing, and communication of local governments and companies nationwide. Goheung-gun was highly evaluated for its diverse and differentiated policies such as achievements in attracting rural returnees, fishermen, and migrants, operation of the Rural Return Happiness School, and support for settlement funds for returning youth.

Goheung-gun opened the nation’s first ‘Rural Return Happiness School’ operated by a local government, providing pre-education and temporary housing facilities for urban residents wishing to relocate to rural areas, gaining great popularity.

In addition, Goheung-gun has established the ‘My Love Goheung Fund’ with 10 billion KRW to support settlement incentives for returning youth, housing repair costs, support for young successors of family businesses, youth challenge projects, and is passionately promoting the attraction of rural returnees and fishermen through startup funds and living base support.

Goheung-gun was selected in the Returning to Farming and Rural Areas City category of the Korea Brand Hall of Fame hosted by the Industrial Policy Research Institute.

Goheung-gun plans to continue various projects such as ▲establishing a comprehensive plan for the settlement of rural returnees and fishermen in local communities ▲Goheung Youth ‘Return Goheung’ project ▲‘Goheung! Live for 3 months and settle’ promotion ▲expansion of houses for rural returnees and fishermen ▲development of residential sites and rental housing by region for returnees and migrants.

Governor Gong Young-min said, “To realize the vision of ‘building a population base of 100,000 in Goheung in 10 years,’ we will systematically promote rural return and migration policies, create a stable living environment, and do our best to maintain Goheung-gun’s reputation as a mecca for rural return and migration.”

Goheung-gun has been recognized externally as a hub for rural return and migration, having been selected as an ‘Excellent Institution’ in the 2022 Rural Return and Migration Attraction Support Project performance evaluation by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and winning the ‘Grand Prize’ in the 2022 Jeollanam-do Rural Return and Fishing Village Comprehensive Evaluation.
