Koramco Asset Trust Obtains International Environmental Management Standard 'ISO14001' Certification
GRESB and LEED Top Ratings... Real Estate Finance Industry's 'ESG Textbook'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Coramco Asset Trust announced on the 12th that it has obtained the ‘ISO14001’ certification, an international standard for environmental management systems and a core indicator of ESG management.
ISO14001 is an international standard for environmental management established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) technical committee. It is an international certification that objectively evaluates environmental management systems across all corporate activities. It assesses not only whether a company complies with relevant environmental laws or international standards but also comprehensive environmental management throughout all stages of management activities, including environmental policies, implementation plans, execution and corrective actions, management reviews, and continuous improvement.
Coramco was recognized for its excellent ability to respond to environmental impacts by establishing 22 procedural documents and guidelines capable of addressing environmental issues, including ▲environmental aspect impact assessment ▲organizational situation management ▲management policies and goal management ▲emergency response procedures, along with practical operation manuals for the environmental management system. This achievement is evaluated as having raised the ESG level in the asset management industry by one step.
In October last year, Coramco was selected as the Asia sector leader with the highest rating of ‘5 Stars’ in the ‘GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark),’ the world’s most prestigious ESG evaluation related to real estate, ranking first in Korea and second in Asia. Last month, it also received the highest rating of ‘Platinum’ in the U.S. green building certification ‘LEED v4.1,’ becoming the first in Korea to achieve this.
Efforts to internalize ESG awareness throughout the work of executives and employees are also notable. Coramco shares monthly ESG progress and achievements with all employees and encourages voluntary ESG lifestyle through regular ESG special lectures, in-house campaigns, and idea contests.
In fact, Coramco employees announced a carbon dioxide reduction achievement of approximately 3,000 kg, equivalent to planting 450 30-year-old pine trees, through the ‘Let’s Save the Earth’ campaign conducted over six months from June last year.
A Coramco Asset Trust official said, “Coramco developed the ‘Green Smart Building Index’ on its own before the concept of ESG was introduced in Korea and is a textbook of ESG in the real estate finance industry that introduced the outside director system despite it not being a legal obligation. It is significant that our efforts so far have sufficient competitiveness in the global market.”
