'Let's Read, Winter!' … Pohang City Library Operates Winter Vacation Reading Class for Elementary Students
8 Municipal Libraries Including Poeun Central Offer Various Reading Experiences and Activity Opportunities
Creative Reading Skills Development for Children by Age, Operating Various In-Person Reading Classes
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City Library is operating winter vacation reading classes for elementary school students at eight city libraries, including Poeun Central Library, to celebrate the winter break.
During this month's vacation period, the city libraries have prepared various children's reading promotion programs at each library to help elementary students develop a habit of reading through diverse reading experiences and hands-on activities.
▲ Poeun Central Library will operate a program titled "An Architectural Journey to Find Myself" from January 17 to 20 for 15 students in grades 4 to 6 (based on the 2023 academic year).
Each day, students will read themed books together, developing creative and proactive learning abilities based on diverse reading experiences, while increasing their interest in reading.
▲ Daejam Library will run "Books Talk That Becomes More Useful When Shared" from January 10 to 13 for 15 third-grade elementary students. Through a daily themed book, post-reading activities such as making a Confucian Analects dictionary and reading discussions involving perspective-taking will be conducted.
▲ Yeongam Library will operate a program titled "Korea Through World History" from January 17 to 20 for 15 students in grades 3 to 4.
This meaningful program connects world history with Korean history to explore Korea's status in the world, offering enjoyable post-reading activities such as drawing the Taegeukgi on eco-bags and making national treasure models to enhance the joy of reading.
▲ Ocheon Library will run "A World Geography Trip Through Books" from January 17 to 20 for 15 students in grades 2 to 3.
Through various stories and activities about world geography, students can experience an enjoyable world trip by reading a book related to world geography each day and participating in interesting post-reading activities such as a world map travel calendar.
▲ Donghae Seokgok Library will operate "Thinking Skills Board Games Enjoyed with Friends" from January 17 to 19 for 15 students in grades 3 to 6. While reading the themed books daily, students will share stories and develop cooperation and thinking skills through various board games.
▲ Children's English Library will run "Warming Up with Great Books!" over three weeks from January 11 to 27 for 15 children each in ages 6 and 7, and grades 1 to 3.
Children will read English picture books and engage in various post-reading activities such as English quizzes and crafts, learning how to easily approach English through systematic classes tailored to each age group by native speakers.
▲ Yeonil Library will operate "Meeting Masterpieces" from January 16 to 19 for 15 students in grades 4 to 6. Students will read various books themed on masterpieces and participate in experiential programs such as making masterpiece lamps and piggy banks, which are book art activities related to masterpieces.
▲ Guryongpo Library will run "Movies Meet Books" from January 10 to 13 for 15 students in grades 1 to 3. Students will watch various movies and connect them with books, writing movie reviews focusing on impressive scenes and creative thoughts.
Song Younghee, director of the City Library, said, "We operate reading classes every vacation to help develop children's creative reading abilities and emotional cultivation," adding, "Since we have prepared various reading activities tailored to age and level, we hope many children will take this opportunity to feel the necessity and joy of reading through active interest and participation."
Due to COVID-19, the winter vacation reading classes, which were previously held online, will be conducted face-to-face at each library.
