Gangwon-do Cheong 'New Office Blueprint' and 'Development Plan for Rejected Sites' to Be Released
Service for 'New Government Building Construction' Starts on the 18th... Expected Completion in 2025
Promoting Customized Development Leveraging the Characteristics and Strengths of Each Region
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] With Gangwon Province completing the selection of the new provincial government building site, work has begun to concretize the construction plan for the new government building.
At the same time, customized development plans will be promoted for the areas that lost out in the competition as candidate sites for the new building.
The province announced on the 12th, "To complete the basic plan establishment service by the end of this year, we will hold a kickoff meeting for the 'New Government Building Basic Plan Establishment and Feasibility Study' service on the 18th."
The province plans to establish detailed plans such as the scale of the new building and project costs by the end of this year, and complete related permits and approvals, including central investment review, by the first half of next year, aiming to finish by 2025.
Land compensation will also begin within this year, with urban planning facility decisions to be completed in the first half, followed by the formation of a compensation council in the second half, and all land acquisition procedures are planned to be completed by the end of next year.
According to the province, the construction cost of the new government building is estimated to be a total of 308.9 billion KRW. However, including the rise in raw material prices and approximately 76 billion KRW in compensation for the new site, the total project cost is expected to exceed 400 billion KRW.
The original plan to accumulate 60 billion KRW annually until 2027 to fund the construction costs is now likely to change due to additional project cost demands.
Previously, the province set aside 5 billion KRW last year as a fund for the new building and allocated 60 billion KRW in the initial budget for this year.
Development of the sites that lost out as candidates for the new building is expected to proceed in a customized manner. The rejected sites include the current Bongui-dong government office, the former Camp Page, the former Agricultural Technology Center, and Norumok Reservoir in Dong-myeon, totaling four locations.
The current Bongui-dong government office will be remodeled and utilized as a complex space with historical, cultural, and tourism functions such as an art museum and art gallery.
The areas including Geunhwa-dong and Soyang-dong, which include the former Camp Page, are planned to be developed as ideal workation spots in connection with the Chuncheon Station area development project and the creation of Chuncheon Lake National Park on Jungdo Island.
The former Agricultural Technology Center site will be transformed into a multipurpose space equipped with cultural and artistic complex facilities, including performance halls and exhibition spaces. The construction of Chuncheon Northern Public Library and the relocation of the Gangwon Cultural Foundation and Chuncheon Cultural Foundation are anticipated.
