Wemade Wins Adaptation Rights Lawsuit for 'Mir's Legend 2'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Wemade announced on the 10th that it won the lawsuit against Actoz Soft regarding the adaptation rights of 'Legend of Mir 2' currently underway in a Chinese court.
Actoz Soft filed a lawsuit at the Intermediate People's Court of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, China, seeking to prohibit Wemade from granting adaptation rights related to 'Legend of Mir 2' to various partners in China. They requested a ban on Wemade's granting of adaptation rights and claimed economic damages.
The court ruled that Wemade has the right to exercise the intellectual property (IP) adaptation rights of 'Legend of Mir 2' and dismissed all claims made by Actoz Soft.
Wemade explained that by consecutively winning lawsuits related to the 'Legend of Mir 2' IP licensing business, it has confirmed that the original copyright holder's rights belong to Wemade.
Previously, through a 2020 Singapore arbitration ruling, it was recognized that the SLA among Wemade, Actoz Soft, and Lansha expired as of September 28, 2017, and lost its effect thereafter. Currently, the final procedure to calculate damages amounting to approximately 1 trillion KRW is underway at the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
Meanwhile, Wemade also won the first trial of the lawsuit filed by Actoz Soft on the 6th to prohibit the granting of adaptation rights for 'Legend of Mir 2.'
