[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is focusing all efforts on supporting single-person households by presenting "Happy Gwanak Accompanying Single-Person Households" as a new vision for 2023, reflecting the diverse needs of the recently increasing single-person households.
As of December 2022, the number of single-person households in Gwanak-gu is approximately 172,000, accounting for 61% of all households.
With the increasing proportion of single-person households, the district established the "Seoul Metropolitan City Gwanak-gu Single-Person Household Support Ordinance" in 2021 to lay the institutional foundation for support and formulated the "Gwanak-gu Single-Person Household Support Comprehensive Plan." Additionally, in the 8th local government term, to provide systematic support, the dedicated "Single-Person Household Support Team" was newly established on November 1, 2022.
In 2023, under the new vision, the goals are set as "Improving quality of life by alleviating anxieties in single-person household sectors" and "Establishing a foundation for single-person households to live together as community members." A total of 13.4 billion KRW will be intensively invested in 39 key projects across four areas: ▲Housing & Employment ▲Safety ▲Health & Care ▲Social Network Formation.
In particular, reflecting Gwanak’s regional characteristics, the district selected three major projects: ▲Safe lease contract assistance service and dispute mediation consultation ▲Safe alley creation design project ▲Happy meal sharing project for middle-aged single-person households, actively realizing policy demands from the perspective of single-person households.
Furthermore, to build a solid foundation for effective project implementation, in May, the district will conduct the "Gwanak-gu Single-Person Household Survey Research Service," actively incorporating expert advice into policy formulation. It will also promote the "Gwanak-type Single-Person Household Support Public Project" targeting non-profit corporations and private organizations, creating synergy in "Gwanak-type Single-Person Household Support" through public-private cooperation.
Additionally, the "Gwanak-gu Single-Person Household Support Center," located on the 4th floor of Nakseongdae-dong Community Service Center, will be remodeled and staffed with dedicated personnel to more effectively carry out support projects for single-person households.
