Gwangjin-gu Dolbom SOS Center Takes Proactive Measures to Protect Cold Wave Vulnerable Households
Checking on the Overlooked Winter Care Recipients and Improving Living Conditions
Providing Four Major Care Services in Preparation for Cold Waves
Preventing Cold Wave Damage and Care Blind Spots for Households Ending Care Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] "I was unable to properly have meals every day due to angina, but a staff member from the community center called to check on me and started delivering one lunchbox to my home daily, so I am eating well."
Mr. Moon ○○ (70), a resident of Junggok-dong, Gwangjin-gu, who received care services from the Gwangjin-gu Care SOS Center, expressed his gratitude.
"I suffered from a spinal disability and underwent back surgery for spinal stenosis, and recently had right knee joint replacement surgery. After discharge, I had to use crutches even at home, but a caregiver was sent to prepare meals and assist me with moving around, for which I am thankful," said Mr. Lee ○○ (76), a resident of Guui-dong, with tears in his eyes.
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) decided to provide four major care services through the Gwangjin-gu Care SOS Center to secure the safety of care blind spots vulnerable to cold waves during winter and to prevent cold wave damage.
The Gwangjin-gu Care SOS Center offers care services up to 130% of the median income standard to those who have difficulty moving alone or living independently and cannot receive help from family, addressing urgent care gaps.
In particular, the four major care services provided in preparation for cold waves include ▲temporary home care for living condition maintenance against cold waves ▲accompaniment support for essential outings to prevent winter fall accidents ▲residential convenience such as water pipe freeze prevention work and installation of draft stoppers ▲and meal support to supplement nutrition during winter.
Since 2021, the Care SOS cold wave measures implemented every winter have significant meaning in establishing a meticulous care support system by checking on households that ended care services without being linked to other welfare programs as part of post-monitoring, spreading cold wave preparedness guidelines, discovering cold wave vulnerable households needing additional care, and creating customized care plans to provide care services.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "We aim to support visiting care services to minimize winter damage to residents. This Care SOS cold wave measure is a proactive step to protect care blind spots from cold wave damage or accidents. We will continue to strive to ensure socially vulnerable groups in need of care receive necessary services through various projects of the Care SOS Center."
Cold wave care services can be applied for at the Care SOS Center of the local community center. If visiting the community center is difficult, inquiries can be made by phone, and a care manager will visit the home directly to check health status, living conditions, and income, and provide necessary services if criteria are met.
