Ulsan City Visits Site for Unpaid Wage Survey Ahead of Seollal
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan City is launching an "Inspection of Wage Payment Status at City-Commissioned Worksites" to protect workers at workplaces where wage arrears are a concern ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The investigation period is from the 6th to the 20th of this month, covering a total of 126 projects worth 232.1 billion KRW, including 62 construction projects worth 185.5 billion KRW and 64 service projects worth 46.6 billion KRW currently underway.
The investigation will cover matters such as wage arrears reports received by each department, the employer's fulfillment of responsibilities, and direct payments made to subcontractors and workers. Public officials will visit the sites in person and conduct substantive interviews.
Companies found to have withheld wages as a result of the investigation will be designated as underperforming companies, posted on the Ulsan City website, and subject to strict measures such as restrictions on bidding eligibility in accordance with relevant laws if violations are found.
