Seoul City Provides Free Lunch During Vacation at 'Uri Dongnae Care Center'
232 Kiwoom Centers Provide Benefits to Over 6,000 People
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 4th that, as part of the Mom and Dad Happiness Project, all elementary school children using the ‘Our Neighborhood Care Center’ (hereafter Care Center) during school vacations will be provided with free lunch starting from the new year. All Care Centers across Seoul are included.
The Care Center is a universal elementary after-school care facility provided by Seoul to address the ‘gap childcare’ needs after school, during vacations, and on holidays for elementary school children. It offers regular, temporary, and emergency care near home or school to ensure children can use the service safely, fulfilling a detailed community care function.
Previously, free lunch and dinner were provided only at the ‘integrated type’ centers, while the ‘general type’ and ‘hub type’ centers charged users for lunch during vacations. However, with the implementation of the ‘Mom and Dad Happiness Project - Three Meals a Day Gap Support for Children’, all Care Centers in Seoul (general type, integrated type, and hub type) will now provide free lunch during vacations. This allows guardians (caregivers) to entrust their children without worrying about meal preparation or costs during school breaks.
Seoul has prepared a budget of approximately 2 billion KRW for the ‘Free Lunch Provision at Care Centers during Vacations’ project and expects to provide quality lunches to about 6,000 children using the Care Centers during vacations.
To use the ‘Our Neighborhood Care Center,’ you can check the Our Neighborhood Care Portal and apply by selecting a center close to your home or school.

Kim Seonsun, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Women and Family Policy Office, said, “While preparing the Mom and Dad Happiness Project, we extensively gathered the voices of caregivers, and since there was a strong demand for meal support for children during vacations, we decided to start this from the new year. We will continue to listen to parents’ voices and provide detailed care services that guardians truly need, creating a Seoul where moms and dads are happy.”
