The Kim Kwang-seok memorial event is a special event to commemorate the late Kim Kwang-seok and to revitalize tourism on Kim Kwang-seok-gil. It is a meaningful and significant occasion prepared in line with the recovery trend of the tourism industry after COVID-19, and will be held through a memorial ceremony and memorial performances.
The memorial ceremony will take place in front of the statue of Kim Kwang-seok at the Kim Kwang-seok-gil Concert Hall in Jung-gu, Daegu, and the memorial performances will be held at the outdoor concert hall on Kim Kwang-seok-gil. The opening performance will be by the gugak fusion band ‘Sori Chwihan Dal,’ which will reinterpret the previously heavy memorial performances into a show that recalls and joyfully celebrates the late Kim Kwang-seok, enlivening the atmosphere.
In particular, this memorial performance will feature Park Chang-geun, the winner of the national singer competition who has a special connection with Kim Kwang-seok-gil. Although already known as a talented singer in the region, Park Chang-geun, who gained nationwide recognition by winning ‘Tomorrow’s National Singer,’ will appear in the musical ‘The Place Where the Wind Blows,’ themed on Kim Kwang-seok, and will also perform busking on Kim Kwang-seok-gil. Additionally, bands such as the Simsangmyeong Band and the acoustic indie band Autumn Garden will perform precious Kim Kwang-seok songs like ‘The Story of a Certain Elderly Couple,’ ‘Because of Love,’ and ‘The Day She First Cried.’

Kim Kwang-seok was born in Daegu in 1964 and moved to Seoul with his family at the age of five. Starting his career as a singer at the age of 20 in Seoul, Kim Kwang-seok was active as a member of groups such as ‘People Looking for Songs’ and ‘Zoo,’ leaving behind numerous masterpieces including ‘Love That Was Too Painful Was Not Love’ and ‘Letter from a Private,’ before leaving us at the age of 32.
