Consumer Agency Tests 10 Hand Cream Products
Differences Found in Moisturizing Power and Texture Among Products
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The moisturizing retention performance and texture of hand creams were found to vary by product.
On the 2nd, the Korea Consumer Agency announced that this was the result after testing 10 tube-type hand cream products. The tested products included 10 brands: Gwailnara, Kkot-eul Deun Namja, Nature Republic, Neutrogena, Nivea, L'Occitane, Vaseline, Innisfree, Aesop, and Camille.
After applying the hand cream, the moisturizing retention on the skin surface was checked, and all 10 products showed an increase in moisture content two hours after use. In particular, three products?Neutrogena Intense Repair Hand Cream, Nivea Moisture Care Olive Hand Cream, and Innisfree Olive Real Moisture Hand Cream?demonstrated relatively superior moisturizing retention performance.
Regarding application feel, Vaseline Intensive Care Healthy Hand and Stronger Nail Lotion scored the highest with 4.6 out of 5 points, while Neutrogena Intense Repair Hand Cream scored the lowest with 1.7 points. For moisture sensation, the Vaseline product scored the highest at 4.0 points, and the Neutrogena product scored the lowest at 2.4 points.
The feeling of oiliness on the skin was relatively higher in two products: Nature Republic Hand and Nature Shea Butter Hand Cream and Innisfree Olive Real Moisture Hand Cream, both scoring 3.6 points. The stickiness felt on the skin was highest in the Neutrogena product with 3.7 points, and lowest in Gwailnara Vaseline Moisture EX Hand and Nail Essence Cream with 2.4 points.
All 10 products met safety standards for heavy metals and antimicrobial preservatives; however, Nature Republic and Vaseline products detected allergenic ingredients above the labeling standard of 0.001% but did not disclose the names of these ingredients. Both companies stated they would improve allergen labeling.
Meanwhile, the prices of hand cream products varied up to 11 times. The price per identical volume (10mL) was lowest for Kkot-eul Deun Namja Milk Hand Cream at 375 KRW and highest for Aesop Resurrection Aromatic Hand Balm at 4,133 KRW.

The Consumer Agency advised that when purchasing hand cream, consumers should consider their skin condition, frequency of use, and price per 10mL to select a suitable product.
