Segok-dong School Zone Tragedy: Bus Driver Sent to Prosecution Without Detention
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] A bus driver in his 40s has been referred to the prosecution in connection with the death of a 12-year-old elementary school student who was hit by a bus near a school zone.
On the 30th, the Suseo Police Station in Seoul announced that they had sent the bus driver, identified as Mr. A in his 40s, to the prosecution without detention on charges of negligent homicide under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling.
Mr. A is accused of hitting and killing the 12-year-old elementary school student who was crossing a crosswalk alone on a road in Segok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at around 9:08 a.m. on the 17th.

The location where the student died was only 8 meters away from the school zone. At the time, Mr. A was reportedly driving the bus at a speed of 40 km/h. The speed limit on that road is 50 km/h. The road where the accident occurred was on a slope, and it was reported that the road was slippery due to snow that had fallen that morning.
