Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Secures Re-election... Launch of Ultra-Hardline Right-Wing Government
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Benjamin Netanyahu, who held the title of Israel's longest-serving prime minister and stepped down last year, has returned as prime minister after a year and a half. As a result, the most hardline right-wing government in Israel's history has been launched.
According to major foreign media on the 29th (local time), the Israeli Knesset (parliament) held a special session on the 29th (local time) and approved the right-wing coalition government led by Netanyahu.
In the vote that day, 63 out of 120 Knesset members supported the coalition, while 54 voted against it. Thus, the right-wing coalition centered on Netanyahu's Likud party was officially launched. It is regarded as a government with stronger Jewish nationalism and Jewish fundamentalism than any previous administration.
Prime Minister Netanyahu served his first term from 1996 to 1999, and then took office again in March 2009, serving for more than 12 years. Returning as prime minister after losing power in June last year for a year and a half, he can extend his record as Israel's longest-serving prime minister for over 15 years.

In his parliamentary speech that day, Netanyahu said, "Ending the conflict between Israel and the Arab world, thwarting Iran's nuclear program, and strengthening Israel's military capabilities are the top priorities," adding, "Opposition members shout about the end of democracy and the state, but democracy does not end just because they lost the election."
