Four Daegu High School Students Receive 'Republic of Korea Talent Award' ... Jo Youngwook, Park Chanhim, Lee Inhyeok, Heo Chaewon
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-seon] The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced that students Jo Young-wook of Daegu Science High School, Heo Chae-won of Gyeongbuk High School, Lee In-hyuk of Dasa High School, Park Chan-heum of Semyung School, and teacher Bae Guk-hwan of Maegok Elementary School have been selected as recipients of the ‘2022 Korea Talent Award’.
The ‘Korea Talent Award’ is given to outstanding young talents aged between 15 and 34 in various fields who will lead future society in South Korea. It is jointly selected by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Student Aid Foundation.
Jo Young-wook, a third-year student at Daegu Science High School, is a talent in the information field with a strong interest in computer science and excellent logical analytical skills. He enjoys research activities themselves and has won awards such as the International Informatics Olympiad Gold Medal (2022), the Korea Informatics Olympiad 2nd Round Gold Prize (High School Division), and the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad Silver Medal (2022).
Heo Chae-won, a second-year student at Gyeongbuk High School, is a talent who is interested in software development and business and works hard. He developed a driver state-linked massage system and won the Excellence Award at the 18th Embedded Software Competition, developed image-based 3D virtual fitting software and won the Gold Prize at the 3rd Korea Code Fair (2021), and recently developed navigation for the visually impaired.
Lee In-hyuk, a second-year student at Dasa High School, is a Taekwondo specialist with exceptional spirit of challenge and passion. He won first place in the male high school division at the 49th Korea Middle and High School Taekwondo Federation President’s Cup National Taekwondo Competition, first place (78kg) at the Sofia 2022 World Youth Taekwondo Championships National Final, and first place (78kg) at the Sofia 2022 World Youth Taekwondo Championships.
Park Chan-heum, a second-year student at Daegu Semyung School, has shown outstanding talent in the arts despite having a disability. He won the Grand Prize at the CREATE YOUR BEAUTY Eco-friendly Art Contest (2022), exhibited works at the ACEP2022 Korea Developmental Disability Artist Special Invitation Exhibition ‘Breaking the Frame with a Brush’ (2022) at the Seoul Arts Center, and participated in the Disabled Creative Art Fair (2019?2022).
Bae Guk-hwan, a teacher at Maegok Elementary School, is a talent with excellent expertise and passion in the field of information education. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he established the online remote learning system ‘Schoolgaja.com’ (2020), contributing to preventing learning loss among students nationwide. He was recognized for his efforts in spreading future education based on edutech and received awards such as the Software Talent Policy Development Merit Award (2021).
