[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Yonsei University Medical Center held a groundbreaking ceremony for Songdo Severance Hospital (tentative name) on the 28th in Songdo International City, Incheon.
Songdo Severance Hospital will be built on a site of 85,950m² (approximately 26,000 pyeong) within the Yonsei University International Campus in District 7 of Songdo International City, with 3 basement floors and 15 above-ground floors, and a capacity of 800 beds.
The architectural design of Songdo Severance Hospital aims to create a patient-centered medical environment by establishing a future-oriented master plan and pursuing specialization and efficiency in treatment through a specialized hospital model centered on professional centers. It prepares for future medical environment variability through standardization and modularization of outpatient treatment areas.
To provide visitors with a nature-friendly healing space, the interior courtyard will be designed as a green-surrounded area. The patient room structure applies a '4-bay' layout, allowing all inpatient beds to receive natural light and have external views through independent windows. Additionally, the ward structure is designed in a square shape to reduce nurses' internal walking distance by about 40%, enabling faster response in emergencies.
Under the title of a future-oriented hospital, Songdo Severance Hospital plans to provide the best medical services to patients by integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data. It aims to realize cell therapy that treats intractable diseases by transplanting living cells into patients, and advanced genome-based medicine that proactively predicts and responds to hereditary diseases through genomic testing, thereby offering personalized medical services and implementing a precision medicine hospital leading the paradigm of future medicine.
It will also serve as a bio-industrialization hub hospital equipped with bio-research functions. In connection with the Yonsei Science Park project promoted by Yonsei University and the numerous leading bio companies and infrastructure concentrated in the Songdo area, as well as over 60 domestic and international universities, research institutes, pharmaceutical companies, and bio firms in Songdo International City, it will establish an industry-academia-research-hospital cooperation model and play a key role in the bio cluster leading 'K-Bio' through biohealth convergence research.
