Jeongeup-si Selected for National Project to Establish Microbial Industry Shared Infrastructure

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 28th that its ongoing project, the ‘Agricultural and Livestock Microbial Industry Shared Infrastructure Construction Project,’ has been selected as a final national project for 2023, securing 10 billion KRW each in national and local government funding.

This achievement is regarded as the result of close cooperation and coordination between the political and administrative sectors, including National Assembly member Yoon Jun-byeong and Mayor Lee Hak-su.

The city plans to establish a public infrastructure based on GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice and Quality Control Standards) in the microbial field, providing production facilities for agricultural and livestock microbial products to about 40 microbial companies that have faced export difficulties due to the lack of such facilities.

Additionally, from next year through 2024, a total of 20 billion KRW will be invested over three years to build factory-type individual occupancy spaces with a total floor area of 7,500㎡ within the Advanced Science Industrial Complex.

This site will include 40 occupancy rooms (165㎡ each) and warehouses for storing shared equipment and logistics used by microbial companies.

Mayor Lee Hak-su stated, “By establishing shared infrastructure for the microbial industry, such as occupancy spaces and shared equipment, we will concentrate microbial industry facilities and make Jeongeup the center of microbial industry development in Korea.”

The city has been focusing on building a microbial industry foundation centered on the Agricultural and Livestock Microbial Industry Promotion Support Center (hereafter Microbial Industry Promotion Support Center), which opened in 2017.

The Microbial Industry Promotion Support Center supports various fields such as efficacy verification, mass cultivation, and industrialization for more than 220 agricultural and livestock microbial product manufacturing companies nationwide.
