Yearning for Changwon as the Northeast Asia Central City... Changwon Special City to Hold Regional New Year's Eve Bell-Ringing Event on the 31st
New Year's Eve Bell Rings Across the City for the First Time in 3 Years
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam will hold the 2022 New Year's Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony in the Changwon, Masan, and Jinhae areas to express hopes for the future innovative growth of Changwon as the Northeast Asian hub city and to pray for the well-being of its citizens.
The bell-ringing ceremony, which used to be held every year at midnight on December 31, was canceled for two years due to COVID-19, so it is expected that citizens' interest will be high as it is being held for the first time in three years this year.
The bell-ringing ceremony consists of representatives from various sectors including the Changwon Special City Mayor, provincial council members, city council members, citizen representatives, and 10 general citizens selected by lottery through citizen recruitment. They are divided into 11 groups and ring the bell 3 times each, totaling 33 rings, wishing for peace and happiness in the new year.
In the Changwon area, the event will start at 11:30 PM on the 31st at the Changwon Daejonggak behind the Changwon Central Library. The event will feature pre-ceremony performances, the bell-ringing ceremony, New Year's message announcements, introduction of new year citizen wish interview videos, congratulatory performances, and a lighting performance where all participating citizens will unite in one heart and mind to pray for their new year wishes.
Jung Sook-yi, Director of Culture and Arts, said, “I hope that the New Year's Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony, praying for economic recovery and citizens' well-being together with the citizens of Changwon, will start the first day of the Year of the Black Rabbit with hope.”
