Lishu Ying: "I will aim for 1 win and Rookie of the Year"
Rishu Ying Secures 17th Place Ticket in KLPGA Regular Tour Seed Ranking
Only Foreigner to Enter 1st Division Tour via Jump and Dream Tours
"Primary Goal is to Maintain Seed, Will Also Challenge for Regular Tour Victory"
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] This is the bold ambition of Li Shuying (China, photo).
On the 25th, Li Shuying said, "It still doesn't feel real that I have secured a Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour card for next year. I feel great to have achieved the result of advancing to the main tour," adding, "I want to prepare even harder during the winter and achieve good results."
Li Shuying moved to Korea at the age of 8 and started playing golf at her mother's suggestion. In February, as an amateur, she knocked on the door of the KLPGA Jump (3rd tier) Tour, winning the 5th and 8th rounds to enter the Dream (2nd tier) Tour. Although she ranked 30th in prize money (16.1 million KRW) on the Dream Tour and failed to secure a main tour card, which is given to the top 20, she made a remarkable achievement by finishing 17th (10 under par, 278 strokes) at the 'Hell Race' main tour qualifying tournament held in Muan in November.
Finishing 17th in the qualifying tournament is a high enough rank to participate in almost all events of the 2023 season. She can enter tournaments with 120 participants and may also have opportunities to compete in events with 108 participants depending on the situation.
Li Shuying is the only foreign player who has advanced to the main tour by progressing through the Jump Tour and Dream Tour like Korean players. Ahead of her debut on the first-tier tour next year, she is balancing rest and training. "I plan to make my shots a bit more precise and improve my short game," she said. "I will prepare meticulously."
