Government Aims for 11 Trillion Won Jackpot in Romania Nuclear Power Plant Deal
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The government has decided to strengthen cooperation with Romania on new nuclear power plant construction worth 11 trillion won.
On the 23rd, Lee Chang-yang, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, met with Marian Spataru, Minister of Economy of Romania, and Virgil Daniel Popescu, Minister of Energy, at Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the nuclear power sector, including nuclear safety facilities and refurbishment of aging nuclear power plants.
Minister Lee emphasized that Korea is the optimal nuclear cooperation partner with competitive advantages in price, quality, and delivery. Both governments reached a consensus to support cooperation between companies of the two countries in projects such as the establishment of nuclear safety facilities and refurbishment of aging nuclear power plants.
Romania is currently promoting a project to build two new reactors at the Cernavod? nuclear power complex in the eastern region and to modernize reactors 1 and 2 at the existing Cernavod? nuclear power plant.
