[Gwangju University News] Successful Completion of 2nd Semester Global Korean Buddy Program and More
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Dongjin) successfully completed the 2nd semester Global Korean Buddy Program.
This program was jointly operated by students from the Department of Korean Language Education and the Gwangju Foreign Workers Support Center.
At the completion ceremony, souvenirs were given to all participants, and two outstanding students were awarded exemplary awards.
Through the Global Korean Buddy Program, Gwangju University has taken the lead in the stable settlement and improvement of the quality of life of foreign workers.
They have also carried out various social contribution projects, including hosting soccer tournaments, community collaborative volunteer activities, and publishing multicultural fairy tale books.
Han Jaedong, team leader of the Gwangju Foreign Workers Support Center, said, “We will strive to enable migrant workers to experience various activities together with Gwangju University in the future.”
Park Kyungjong, director of the Gwangju University University Innovation Support Project Group, stated, “We will actively work to ensure that migrant workers in the local community can live more stable and happy lives in Korean society.”
Meanwhile, Gwangju University, which is practicing the vision of growing together with the local community by nurturing future talents, opened a Convergence Major in Multicultural Society Experts this year and is operating and supporting various programs where citizens with diverse cultures in the local community can participate together.
◆ Professor Kim Minkyeong of Gwangju University receives Excellent Work Award from the Korean Society of Interior Design
Professor Kim Minkyeong of the Department of Interior Design at Gwangju University recently received the Excellent Work Award at the Korean Society of Interior Design International Invitation Exhibition (KIID 2022 International Invitation Exhibition).
A total of 103 works from 12 countries around the world were submitted to this exhibition.
Professor Kim submitted the work titled ‘Daycare Design Suggestions for Autism Spectrum Disorder,’ which proposes a daycare environment design that understands and considers the seven sensory needs of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who perceive familiar environments differently from usual.
The work was conceived from the belief that the power of spatial design can open greater possibilities for their lives.

Since earning her doctorate in 2019, Professor Kim has been recognized for her skills by receiving awards such as the Excellent Presentation Award at academic conferences and the Excellent Paper Award in the quantitative category from the Korean Society of Interior Design over the past three years.
