Park Chan-wook's 'Decision to Leave' Selected as Oscar International Feature Film Preliminary Candidate

Director Park Chan-wook's film Decision to Leave has been shortlisted for the Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which hosts the ceremony, announced on the 21st (local time) a list of fifteen preliminary candidates selected from submissions by ninety-two countries. Alongside Decision to Leave, the list includes All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany), Saint Omer (France), Argentina, 1985 (Argentina), Corsage (Austria), Close (Belgium), Return to Seoul (Cambodia), The Sacred Spider (Denmark), and Hello, Cinema Heaven (India). Also included are The Quiet Girl (Ireland), Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths (Mexico), The Blue Caftan (Morocco), Joyland (Pakistan), EO (Poland), and Cairo Conspiracy (Sweden). The final five nominees will be announced on January 24 next year. The awards ceremony will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles (LA).

Decision to Leave is a romantic thriller that tells the story of detective Hae-joon (Park Hae-il), who investigates a mysterious death and finds himself simultaneously suspicious of and attracted to the deceased's wife, Seo-rae (Tang Wei). Director Park was recognized for his outstanding direction and won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival last May. The trophy may be supplemented with additional awards in the United States next year. The film is also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Critics' Choice Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
