The PGA Tour announced the 'Five big stories from the fall' on its website on the 21st (local time). Kim Joo-hyung was recognized as a rising star (TOM KIM, GOLF’S ASCENDANT STAR) and proudly ranked 2nd.
The PGA Tour praised Kim Joo-hyung, saying, "The ceremony was delightful. The performance was historic." It added, "Although the team lost in the Presidents Cup, a men’s golf competition between the U.S. and International teams, he created many highlights with passionate play," and "He made a clutch birdie on the 18th hole in the four-ball match."
The PGA Tour emphasized that Kim Joo-hyung lost 4 strokes on the first hole of the first round at the Wyndham Championship but won by shooting 61 on the final day, and that he also won the Shriners Children’s Open, becoming the second player after ‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods (USA) to win two PGA Tour titles before turning 21.
The No. 1 big story was Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) reclaiming the world No. 1 ranking. McIlroy became the first-ever three-time FedEx Cup champion and won The CJ Cup to rise to ‘Number 1.’
Max Homa’s (USA) dramatic hole-out (HOMA’S HOLE-OUT) ranked 3rd. Homa was one stroke behind Danny Willett (England) through the 17th hole on the final day of the Fortinet Championship, but while Willett made a three-putt from 1 meter on the 18th hole, Homa chipped in a birdie from 10 meters to overturn the match.
