Support for Single-Parent Families, Government Steps Up... Public Hearing Held to Establish Basic Plan
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will hold an online public hearing on the 22nd through the Korea Women's Policy Institute's YouTube channel to establish the "1st Basic Plan for Single-Parent Family Policy (2023~2027)," which will serve as the foundation for single-parent family policies.
Since the revision and enforcement of the "Single-Parent Family Support Act" on April 21 last year, the basis for establishing a five-year basic plan related to single-parent families has been established for the first time.
Accordingly, since June, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has worked with the Korea Women's Policy Institute, holding expert advisory meetings in various fields and discovering new tasks for local governments to establish the "1st Basic Plan for Single-Parent Family Policy (draft)."
The basic plan sets two main goals under the vision of "a society where single-parent families are happy and grow together": "creating a stable child-rearing environment for single-parent families" and "eliminating social and institutional discrimination against single-parent families."
The key strategies for implementation include △ stabilizing the living conditions of single-parent families △ enhancing the self-reliance capabilities of single parents △ strengthening the child-rearing responsibilities of non-custodial parents △ and establishing a support foundation for single-parent families.
Main tasks to be promoted include △ expanding support for low-income single-parent families △ strengthening academic and employment support for single parents △ improving the child support enforcement system △ and establishing a policy delivery system for single-parent families.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family plans to comprehensively review the opinions gathered through the public hearing and then finalize and announce the 1st Basic Plan for Single-Parent Family Policy.
