Seoul Fire Department Activates Disaster Response System for Christmas and Year-End Holidays
Special Security Duty and Measures for Large Crowds
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 21st that it will implement special alert duty along with disaster preparedness measures to ensure citizens' safety during the year-end and New Year holidays.
The Fire and Disaster Headquarters expects large crowds to gather at various events for the first Christmas and year-end New Year holidays following the lifting of COVID-19 social distancing measures, and will actively promote fire safety measures to prepare for disasters and accidents.
First, fire safety will be checked at event venues and multi-use facilities expected to attract large crowds, such as religious facilities in Seoul and popular spots for watching the sunset and sunrise, and a close disaster response cooperation system will be established with related organizations.
In particular, for major event venues, pre-event fire safety inspections and fire prevention and response measures will be established, and a situation management system will be maintained until crowds disperse after the event ends. The 119 situation room, which manages situation dissemination and additional fire force mobilization in case of safety accidents, will also be operated on an expanded scale.
Fire safety consulting will be conducted at 84 performance and viewing facilities to guide related personnel in performing fire safety management tasks, and the maintenance status of fire facilities and evacuation routes in case of fire or other disasters will be intensively checked.
Additionally, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters will conduct special alert duty at fire stations during the Christmas and year-end New Year period.
During the special alert duty period, fire station chiefs will strengthen emergency contact and cooperation systems with related organizations for urgent fire force mobilization to maintain fire vigilance and rapid response systems.
On-site adaptation training will be conducted at 345 traditional markets, and 127 patrol routes will be selected focusing on fire-prone areas, with fire pump vehicles patrolling for fire prevention more than twice a day.
