Jeonnam Province, COVID-19 Spread Continues, All-Out Efforts to Block Infection Transmission
Emergency Support of Over 50,000 Self-Test Kits to Vulnerable Facilities
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province is putting all its efforts into blocking the spread of infection by urgently providing more than 50,000 self-test kits for preemptive testing to infection-vulnerable facilities as the 7th wave of COVID-19 continues.
According to the province on the 20th, this 7th wave began at the end of October and is showing a gradual increase, unlike the previous rapid rise and fall patterns.
Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province urgently supplied 52,000 self-test kits to 600 infection-vulnerable facilities such as nursing hospitals and nursing homes.
The supplied kits are expected to help block the spread within facilities by being used for preemptive testing of workers who frequently come into contact with unspecified many people during commuting.
Jeonnam Province is also continuing selective and focused quarantine measures at infection-vulnerable facilities where COVID-19 damage is concentrated.
To actively respond to this 7th wave, the province focused on increasing the vaccination rate of the bivalent vaccine during the winter season, achieving the highest vaccination rate nationwide at 57.7% as of the 19th.

Moon Gwonok, head of the Infectious Disease Management Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “Since infection-vulnerable facilities often experience in-facility spread caused by workers, regular preemptive testing must be conducted regardless of symptoms,” and added, “Facilities that have not yet received the additional winter bivalent vaccine should proceed with prompt vaccination.”
