"New Year's Day of the Year of the Rabbit at Bongsan"... Eunpyeong-gu Holds Sunrise Event
[Seoul District News] Eunpyeong-gu Holds New Year's Day Event at Bongsan Sunrise Park & First Sunrise Event in 2 Years ... Dobong-gu 2022 Year-End Concert on 22nd 'Tong!Tong (通) Concert with Dobong Residents' Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it will hold a New Year's sunrise event at Bongsan Sunrise Park at 7 a.m. on January 1st to celebrate the Year of the Black Rabbit, Gyemyo Year (癸卯年).
The event, held together with Eunpyeong residents to welcome the New Year 2023 and wish for a hopeful year, will be held normally for the first time in two years. Bongsan Sunrise Park is a representative sunrise spot in Eunpyeong-gu, but the New Year's sunrise event has been completely canceled since 2020 due to COVID-19.
This year, an arch-shaped sculpture called the 'Gate of New Year Hope' decorated with illumination lights will be installed at the entrance of the hiking trail toward Bongsan Sunrise Park. It symbolizes the wish for a bright path ahead in the new year.
Before the main event, there will be a 'Writing Wish Papers' session to pray for New Year's wishes and a 'Tea Sharing' time to exchange New Year's greetings while drinking warm tea.
During the main event, residents will watch the sunrise together and chant hopeful slogans. Drones will be flown at sunrise to welcome the new year. The celebration stage will feature performances such as vocal music and traditional Korean large drum (daebuk) playing.
Since this is the first sunrise event in two years held without masks, the district will thoroughly prepare for safety accidents caused by crowd congestion. They will establish a prior safety management plan, deploy safety personnel on hiking trails, and maintain order at the event site to ensure flawless safety.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “I hope that, like the vigorous rising sun of the new year, it will be a bright year for Eunpyeong residents,” and added, “I hope many residents safely enjoy the sunrise event together.”
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) will hold the ‘Tong!通 (Tongtong) Concert with Dobong Residents’ at 7 p.m. on December 22nd at the Harmony Hall of Dobong Residents’ Center to celebrate the year-end.
This performance was planned as a show where local artists based in Dobong-gu take the stage to communicate and connect with Dobong residents. Various genres such as samulnori (traditional percussion), rap, Korean traditional music, and acoustic guitar will provide rich entertainment.
The concert will open with a samulnori performance by the percussion creative group ‘Didim Sori.’ The stage will continue with a dazzling performance by the acoustic guitar duet ‘Yeorisuni,’ evoking nostalgia for the 70s and 80s, followed by the jazz band ‘Howzy’ with its sweet sound.
The Korean traditional music trio ‘Utrio’ (Woo Ji-min, Woo Jeong-moon, Woo Han-ung) will present a stage featuring pansori, Korean dance, and folk songs. This will be followed by a musical and film music performance by ‘Munak Munak X Jjos Ara,’ composed of a pianist and vocalist. Finally, rapper ‘Outsider,’ widely known for his rapid-fire rap, will fill the venue with energy.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “Through the Tongtong Concert, artists and residents of Dobong-gu will enjoy a lively and fun stage where they connect with each other. I hope this year-end concert will be an enjoyable time to wrap up 2022 for the residents.”
