Jeonnam Fire Department Accelerates Efforts to Create a Safe Environment for Residents
Special Crackdown Conducted on Hazardous Material Manufacturing Sites and Firefighting Construction Sites
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters announced on the 15th that it conducted intensive inspections on 569 sites, including hazardous material manufacturing facilities and fire facility construction sites in the region, and found violations at 90 sites. The defect rate is 16%.
Jeonnam Fire conducted intensive inspections on hazardous materials and fire facility construction sectors from August 16 to the 9th of this month to create a safe environment for residents.
The inspection team was composed of special judicial police from the headquarters and each fire station, as well as the fire special investigation team, selecting 5-10% of 10,660 hazardous material manufacturing sites and 769 fire facility construction sites in the province by fire station.
The focus was on unauthorized hazardous materials, installation and modification permits for hazardous material facilities, compliance with hazardous material storage and handling, and the appropriateness of commencement and supervision at fire facility construction sites.
There were 8 sites booked for unauthorized hazardous materials, 28 fines imposed (37.38 million KRW), 254 corrective orders at 56 sites, 4 notifications to institutions, and 48 minor violations were corrected on-site.
Kim Joil, the Fire Headquarters Chief, said, "Despite continuous efforts to eradicate violations of fire-related laws, offenders infringing on residents' safety continue to occur. We will continue inspections on violations to do our best to ensure residents' safety."

Meanwhile, 159 fire special judicial police officers are assigned to the provincial fire headquarters and fire stations, responsible for inspections and investigations of violations of seven laws related to fire, including the Fire Services Basic Act.
