Mokpo City Council Budget and Accounts Special Committee Completes Review of '2023 Mokpo City Main Budget'
Focus on Improving Citizens' Quality of Life and Preventing Populist and Event-Driven Expenses in Budget and Accounts Committee Activities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] The Mokpo City Council Budget and Accounts Special Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Budget Committee) completed an in-depth review of the 2023 budget proposal on the 14th and is scheduled to finalize it at the 6th plenary session of the 2nd regular meeting of the 379th session on the 19th.
This Budget Committee consists of 12 members, including Chairman Jo Seong-o, Vice Chairman Park Su-gyeong, and council members Park Yong-jun, Park Yoo-jeong, Park Chang-su, Park Hyo-sang, Song Seon-woo, Yoo Chang-hoon, Jeong Jae-hoon, Choi Won-seok, Choi Yoo-ran, and Choi Hwan-seok.
The Budget Committee conducted a meticulous review of the 2023 budget proposal, focusing not on the amount but on reflecting the financial demands of current issues in 2023 and restraining the allocation of funds for populist and event-driven expenses to revitalize the local economy, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19 and interest rate hikes. After two days of comprehensive review, it confirmed cuts totaling approximately 3.72 billion KRW from 50 projects out of the total 949.9 billion KRW budget for Mokpo City in 2023.
Another notable aspect of this activity was the Budget Committee’s effort to respect and incorporate the preliminary budget review results through organic communication with each standing committee.

The Budget Committee stated, “To build public consensus considering the economic downturn during the committee’s activity period, we returned the corporate card to save expenses related to the committee’s activities. We hope that the valuable funds reviewed and approved will be timely and effectively invested to benefit the convenience and welfare of citizens,” and urged the executing agency to ensure transparent execution.
