Gurye-gun's 'Cheoneunsa Saengsaeng-ui Gil & Pine Forest Trail' Selected as One of Korea's Top 100 Tourist Attractions
‘Cheoneunsa Sangsaeng-ui Gil & Sonamusuptgil’ Recognized as a Leading Domestic Tourist Destination
Aggressive Marketing Targeting Domestic and International Tourists Expected to Attract Visitors
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun announced that ‘Cheoneunsa Sangsaeng Road & Pine Forest Trail’ has been selected as one of the ‘2023-2024 Korea Tourism 100’ hosted and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
The Korea Tourism 100 is a project that selects representative domestic tourist destinations every two years since 2013 to revitalize domestic tourism, and this is the 6th time.
‘Cheoneunsa Sangsaeng Road & Pine Forest Trail’ was highly evaluated for its attractiveness and growth potential as a representative tourist destination through expert reviews and big data analysis, and was finally selected after going through document evaluation, on-site evaluation, and the final selection committee review process.
The 3.3km section of the ‘Sangsaeng (相生) Road’ starts from the Iljumun Gate, allowing visitors to feel the refreshing energy of the forest around the Cheoneunsa Valley and the scent of the temple, as well as enjoy the scenic views around Cheoneje Reservoir.
As a co-prosperity project with Gurye-gun, 0.7km of the newly created trail section was developed as a barrier-free facility considering transportation-vulnerable groups such as the disabled and the elderly. The trail is equipped with seven observatories where visitors can enjoy forest bathing and beautiful natural cultural landscapes, a 0.4km nature-friendly trail considerate of wildlife such as otters, and convenience facilities such as wooden bridges.
Being selected for the Korea Tourism 100 provides significant support in attracting tourists through aggressive marketing targeting domestic and international tourists, including distributing promotional materials at nationwide tourist information centers, transportation hubs (airports, KTX high-speed rail), and overseas branches of the Korea Tourism Organization starting in 2023.
County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, “Cheoneunsa Sangsaeng Road & Pine Forest Trail has been recognized as a representative tourist destination of Korea,” and added, “We will welcome tourists with various cultural events harmonized with the history and scenic resources of the thousand-year-old temple Cheoneunsa.”
