The city announced that the Gangso Research and Development Special Zone Electric and Mechanical Convergence Research Complex project passed the Gyeongsangnam-do Urban Planning Committee review last October and that the development restriction zone was lifted as of the 15th.
The Gangso Research and Development Special Zone is a research complex designed to create and foster a small-scale, high-density, self-sufficient intensive space based on science and technology in connection with key local technology institutions to respond to industrial structure changes following the future 4th Industrial Revolution.
The Gangso Research and Development Special Zone Electric and Mechanical Convergence Research Complex, to be established in a 173,000㎡ area around Bulmosan-dong, Seongsan-gu, will include an education and research commercialization facility zone housing the key technology institution Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (joint research center, demonstration zone), an industrial promotion zone for technology development transfer companies and research institutes, and an industrial support zone with dormitories and neighborhood living facilities, fulfilling the functions of the research complex.
Upon completion of the Gangso Research and Development Special Zone Electric and Mechanical Convergence Research Complex, it is expected to play a role in advancing the industrial structure by integrating intelligent electric technology and mechanical industries in future industrial fields such as electricity and power, energy, electric propulsion, robotics, nano-convergence, and advanced electric devices.
Following the announcement of the lifting of the development restriction zone, the city plans to complete additional administrative procedures such as the designation of additional Gangso Special Zones, development plans, and implementation plan approvals by the first half of 2024.
