Gyeongsang National University Hosts Korea's First Global Industry-Academia-Autonomy Driving Camp
The 1st F1Tenth Korea Championship Autonomous Driving Race and Global Camp
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The LINC 3.0 Project Group at Gyeongsang National University announced on the 15th that it held the "1st F1Tenth Korea Championship Autonomous Driving Race and Global Camp" at the Ramada Plaza Jeju Hotel Grand Ballroom on the 12th and 13th.
F1Tenth is a global community created in 2016 at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States by autonomous driving researchers and engineers, leading the advancement of autonomous driving technology through research, education, and racing.
At this event, Gyeongsang National University prepared education on software development related to autonomous driving, which is emerging as a core of the future automobile industry, and an autonomous driving small car racing competition.
Student teams related to autonomous driving from domestic and international universities participated in the camp, and there was high interest with sponsorship from Korea Automotive Technology Institute, GM Korea, Korea Electromechanical Convergence Technology Institute, and autonomous driving company Sonet AI. The competition featured about 90 participants from 11 teams across three countries, including Gyeongsang National University, Handong University, Kyungpook National University, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Inha University, Korea University, Sangmyung University, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology in Thailand, and AGH University of Science and Technology in Poland.
On the 12th, Professor Kim Jin-hyun of the Department of Intelligent Communication Engineering at Gyeongsang National University introduced F1Tenth education and racing. This was followed by special lectures from top autonomous driving experts from home and abroad.
Professor Bae Dong-sung of the Software Department at Sangmyung University lectured on "Design Methods for Autonomous Driving Race Tracks," Professor Kwon Cheol-hyun of the Mechanical Engineering Department at UNIST spoke on "The Journey for F1Tenth," Researcher Jang Guk-jin from the University of Pennsylvania presented on "Autonomous Driving Control Technology," and Professor Johannes Betz from the Technical University of Munich in Germany gave a lecture on "Multi-Motion Planning and Control Technology."
On the 13th, an autonomous driving race was held with 11 teams of university students from three countries participating. The competition started with a time-lap race in the morning, followed by test driving and one-on-one races in the afternoon to determine each team's ranking.
The first and second places were both awarded to teams from Gyeongsang National University. Third place went to teams from AGH University of Science and Technology in Poland, UNIST, Kyungpook National University, and King Mongkut's Institute of Technology in Thailand, respectively.
