KOTRA Holds 'Smart Farm Support Project Briefing' with Government and Nong-eochon Gong
Explanation Session for Next Year's Support Projects to Be Held on the 14th
Participation of 7 Organizations Including Rural Development Administration... "First Step Toward Integrated System"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] KOTRA announced on the 14th that it will hold an explanatory meeting with seven related organizations, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Rural Community Corporation, regarding next year’s smart farm support projects. It is said that the meeting is held as part of the activities of the 'Smart Farm Export Support Group' launched by the government.
The explanatory meeting will be held from 2 p.m. today at the international conference hall of KOTRA headquarters in Yeomgok-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul. It is explained that this is the first step in establishing an integrated support system with related organizations after the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs launched the export support group last September.
According to KOTRA, more than 100 smart farm companies and seven organizations including the Korea Rural Community Corporation, Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency, Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Korea Smart Farm Industry Association, and Smart Farm R&D Industrial Complex have applied to participate in the meeting. About 150 people are expected to attend.
The first part will cover the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ plans to revitalize smart agriculture, global smart farm technology and market trends, and successful cases of smart farm overseas expansion this year. It will introduce the Kuwait smart farm pilot project and the Oman Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries smart farm project contract cases. It aims to provide insights necessary for smart farm companies interested in overseas expansion.
The second part will cover next year’s smart farm support projects by each organization. It will provide information on support programs from related organizations such as KOTRA’s K-Smart Farm delegation and overseas exhibition participation support projects, the Korea Rural Community Corporation’s smart farm innovation valley construction project, and the Promotion Agency’s Korean-style demo greenhouse construction and operation project.
Concerns about food security and supply chain stability have increased following the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The smart farm industry is emerging as a field of great global interest. There is high demand for Korean-style smart farms in the Middle East and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. Opportunities for Korean companies to secure contracts are also increasing.
Jung Wooyoung, Head of KOTRA’s Innovation Growth Headquarters, said, “Smart farms are a new growth industry for Korea and a major government policy task. KOTRA will actively support companies’ overseas expansion by establishing an integrated smart farm support system through active collaboration with domestic related organizations.”
