Ulsan Tap Water Meets All Drinking Water Quality Standards... Waterworks Headquarters' November Water Quality Test Results
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] In November, water quality tests conducted on water purification plants and faucets in the Ulsan area all showed that the water is "suitable for drinking."
The Ulsan Waterworks Headquarters announced that the results of water quality tests on 60 items met both South Korea's drinking water quality standards and the World Health Organization (WHO) water quality standards, indicating a very safe level.
According to the test results, microorganisms such as general bacteria, total coliform group, and Escherichia coli, as well as harmful inorganic substances including ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, fluoride, heavy metals (7 items), and boron were all "not detected or below the standard values."
Sixteen items related to aesthetic impact substances such as hardness, odor, taste, color, and turbidity were also investigated as "not detected, suitable, or below standard values."
Seventeen items of health-hazardous organic substances such as phenol, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride were "not detected," and eleven items including disinfectants and disinfection by-products such as residual chlorine, total trihalomethanes, chloroform, and bromate were also measured as "not detected or below standard values."
Additionally, water quality tests conducted on a total of 108 general household faucets selected based on the population served in each district and county, and 6 faucets with aging pipes showed that residual chlorine levels were appropriate, and all points met water quality standards.
An official from the Waterworks Headquarters stated, "Based on regular water quality test results, the tap water supplied from purification plants to each household is much lower than the drinking water quality standard values, making it safe and clean, so citizens can drink it with confidence."
The Waterworks Headquarters is implementing the "Our Home Tap Water Safety Confirmation Program" to address citizens' concerns and inconveniences regarding tap water.
