[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Kim Gwangdong, a standing member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for the Past (Truth and Reconciliation Commission), has been appointed as the chairman of the 2nd term of the commission.
On the 9th, the newly appointed Chairman Kim stated, "I will faithfully carry out investigative duties to ensure that not a single unjust victim is left without truth verification and that not a single distortion of the truth occurs."
He said, "I feel a heavy responsibility as I have been appointed chairman tasked with national integration by reestablishing cases, restoring the honor of victims, and seeking remedies through investigations into past incidents," adding, "I will seek universal value-based measures to establish a global reconciliation model for resolving historical injustices."
Chairman Kim joined the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as a standing member in February last year. The commission consists of nine members including the chairman, and Kim was nominated upon recommendation by the People Power Party.

He has served as a director of the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation, president of the National Policy Research Institute, director of the Independence Hall, and member of the National Veterans Committee. In 2008, he was known to have participated in writing the "Alternative Textbook on Modern and Contemporary Korean History," a New Right-affiliated textbook.
