Boryeong Hosts 'CIS Challenge' Demo Day Supporting Space Healthcare Startups
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwanju] Boryung announced on the 9th that it held the demo day event, the final schedule of the 1st 'CIS Challenge,' on the 6th (local time) in Los Angeles, USA.
The CIS Challenge is a program in which Boryung, together with space development specialist company Axiom Space and startup accelerator Starburst, discovers and systematically nurtures space healthcare startups. It is part of the CIS (Care In Space) project that supports various human activities in outer space.
About 200 industry officials, investors, and participating teams attended this demo day. The six promising space healthcare startups selected through the pitch day presented their solutions to health issues that humans may face in the completely different space environment from Earth.
Kim Jeonggyun, Chairman of the Boryung Board of Directors, said, "Recently, with the participation of private companies, the frequency and duration of human visits to space have increased rapidly," adding, "Since the space sector requires global cooperation, we will lead the efforts to freely enable human activities in outer space together with many partners through the CIS Challenge."
In addition, experts invited by Boryung from various fields gave keynote speeches on ways to realize human life and habitation in space. In particular, Dr. Yi So-yeon, the first Korean astronaut, and Michael Lopez-Alegria, Vice President of Axiom Space and a former NASA astronaut who led the private spaceflight mission 'AX-1' last April, shared vivid experiences of actual space life as speakers.
