MFDS Holds the 8th Asia InfoSan International Conference
[Asia Economy Reporter Byeon Seon-jin] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that it will jointly host the 8th Asia INFOSAN International Meeting with the World Health Organization Western Pacific Regional Office (WHO WPRO) and others in Osong, Chungbuk, from the 6th to the 7th. INFOSAN is a consultative body established in 2004 by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to facilitate rapid information exchange in the event of food safety emergencies.
This meeting is held under the theme "Strengthening the Role of INFOSAN in the Asia-Pacific Region." The main agenda includes ▲ Introduction of South Korea's INFOSAN activities ▲ Reports on food safety emergency response activities by Asia-Pacific member countries in 2022 ▲ WHO's 2023 global food safety strategy and implementation plans to strengthen INFOSAN's role ▲ Various cooperation and communication measures for cause identification systems and rapid response in the event of food safety incidents in South Korea.
At this meeting, Asia INFOSAN member countries and the WHO Western Pacific and Southeast Asia Regional Offices (WPRO·SEARO) will participate online, while the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (National Fishery Products Quality Management Service), and the Food Safety Information Service will attend in person.

Additionally, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will present its crisis management response system prepared for food safety incidents in South Korea, including a system that evaluates crisis levels and reviews rapid response measures according to the food safety incident response manual. The Ministry expects that this meeting will significantly contribute to strengthening domestic food safety management by solidifying cooperative frameworks among Asia-Pacific countries for food safety and enabling swift joint responses to international food safety incidents.
