On the 5th, Incheon City launched the '2025 APEC Summit Pan-Citizen Attraction Committee' at Songdo Convensia and officially began preparing attraction strategies, conducting promotional activities, and creating a boom.
The Attraction Committee is chaired by Lee Haengsuk, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Welfare, and consists of about 100 members from various fields including members of the National Assembly, related organizations, international organizations, universities, MICE, and companies.
Through the declaration of support for attracting the 2025 APEC Summit to Incheon on the same day, the committee stated, "Incheon is an ideal city to host APEC as it can well realize APEC's three main goals of trade and investment, innovation and digital economy, and inclusive sustainable growth," and promised to "make every effort for a successful attraction."
Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok said, "Incheon has strong infrastructure for hosting international summits, including 15 international organizations such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Songdo International Business District, and Incheon International Airport," and added, "based on experience hosting large-scale international events such as the Incheon Asian Games (2014) and the OECD World Forum (2018), we hope to attract the APEC Summit to showcase Incheon's capabilities to the world and leap forward as a world-class city."
Earlier, in September, Mayor Yoo visited the APEC Secretariat in Singapore and met with Secretary-General Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria to express Incheon's intention to host the 2025 APEC Summit.
Secretary-General Rebecca said, "This is the first time a local government head has visited the Secretariat to attract the APEC Summit," and added, "If Incheon is selected as the host city, our APEC team will work together with Incheon officials to ensure the success of the summit."
The APEC Summit is an annual meeting attended by over 6,000 people including leaders and ministers from 21 Asia-Pacific economies, consisting of the summit, ministerial meetings, and business meetings.
