Opposition: "Yoon Government Suppresses Cargo Solidarity Workers... The True Face of an Incompetent and Uncommunicative Regime"
"Labor Rights Require Dialogue and Compromise"
Emphasis on Passing the Safe Freight Rate Bill
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The opposition party condemned the government for suppressing the striking Cargo Solidarity, calling it "the true face of an incompetent and uncommunicative administration."
Lee Su-jin, a labor activist and floor spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office on the 4th, stating, "The entire state apparatus under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is cracking down on Cargo Solidarity workers," and added, "Today, President Yoon Seok-yeol himself is said to preside over a meeting with related ministers."
He pointed out, "The spirit of the safety freight rate agreement between labor and government has completely disappeared, and the government is threatening to completely abolish the 'Safety Freight Rate System,'" adding, "In line with this, the People Power Party is refusing to review the Safety Freight Rate bill."
He continued, "The shameless Minister of the Interior and Safety has classified the strike as a disaster and, led by Police Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun, has launched a crackdown on the workers," and said, "The public demand for accountability and resignation over the Itaewon tragedy is being distorted into suppression of Cargo Solidarity."
He criticized, "Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong is directly conducting a 'work commencement urging show,' and the Fair Trade Commission is attempting to classify Cargo Solidarity as a 'business entity' and investigate violations of the Fair Trade Act," asking, "If this is not the true face of an incompetent administration, then what is?"
