Former leader Choi entered politics as a national proportional representative of the Democratic Justice Party in the 12th general election in December 1985, after serving as the political chief and editor-in-chief of the Chosun Ilbo. He later served as the presidential chief secretary for political affairs and as the Minister of Culture and Public Information and Minister of Labor under the Roh Tae-woo administration, and subsequently served as the Mayor of Seoul. He was a four-term lawmaker elected in the 12th, 14th, 15th, and 16th general elections, and was elected as the leader of the Grand National Party, the predecessor of the People Power Party, in 2003. The funeral is being held at Samsung Seoul Hospital Funeral Hall, Room 15, with the funeral procession scheduled for the 4th.
