Baek Jong-han, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Demands Review of Living Wage Suitable for Local Conditions
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Baek Jong-han, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, pointed out the formal operation of the Living Wage Deliberation Committee during a 5-minute free speech at the 1st plenary session of the 308th regular meeting on the 1st, and proposed efforts to properly implement the living wage system.
Councilor Baek said, "The living wage system, which is designed to protect low-wage vulnerable workers employed in public institutions, must be properly implemented," and added, "The district mayor should present a living wage standard suitable for the conditions of Seo-gu and carefully ensure that eligible recipients are not excluded."
He continued, "The items included in the calculation of the living wage vary by local government, and the weighting should also differ," and asserted, "The Living Wage Deliberation Committee, which reviews important matters of the living wage, should present a living wage level appropriate to the characteristics of Seo-gu and clearly define the scope of eligible recipients."
