CJ Freshway Expands Distribution of 'Sustainable Seafood'
Signed a Business Agreement Between Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Partners to Expand Sustainable Seafood Distribution

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ Freshway announced on the 1st that it will expand the domestic distribution of 'sustainable seafood' that complies with marine protection and animal welfare standards.
Sustainable seafood refers to seafood that adheres to environmentally friendly fishing methods and strict quality control standards throughout all stages of commercialization, including harvesting, aquaculture, processing, and distribution, and has obtained international certification for sustainability.
On the 30th of last month, CJ Freshway held a business agreement ceremony with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) at its Seoul headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and announced its goal to lead efforts to expand the supply and promote the consumption of sustainable seafood.
Focusing on the business-to-business (B2B) supply chain such as food service franchises and group catering facilities, the company plans to introduce certified products and deliver high-quality eco-friendly food and the value of sustainable fisheries to the end consumers using these establishments.
To this end, CJ Freshway obtained the 'MSC/ASC-CoC' certification for distribution management and sales in March and has been steadily introducing related products. Currently available products include MSC-certified lobster and snow crab, ASC-certified shrimp, and a new ASC-certified smoked salmon product is scheduled to be launched in mid-month.
CJ Freshway plans to expand certified seafood products through its food distribution specialized brand 'Itswell' and supply them in group catering services.

A CJ Freshway official stated, "Recently, as eco-friendly production and distribution standards and animal welfare systems during the growth process have become important, high-level value consumption has emerged, increasing related demand in B2B channels such as dining out and catering. In addition to existing evaluation criteria such as health, freshness, and safety, we will expand products that also meet the value of sustainability to broaden the choices for dining and catering customers and contribute to the spread of eco-friendly food culture."
