Jeongeup Agricultural Technology Center, Application for Certified Seed Potatoes and Corn
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] The Jeongeup Agricultural Technology Center in Jeonbuk (Director Jeon Jeong-gi) announced on the 29th that it is accepting applications for seed potatoes and corn to be sown next spring.
The potato varieties supplied this time are three types: Sumi, Seohong, and Dubaek. A total of 28.7 tons will be supplied to our region, and applications can be made in units of 20 kg boxes at the town and township agricultural consultation offices until the 31st of next month.
The supply price is undecided, and the seeds will be supplied through local agricultural cooperatives in February.
The Seohong variety has a red exterior but a white interior similar to Sumi, is resistant to scab disease, and its cultivation method is similar to that of Sumi.
Dubaek is a processing variety characterized by high starch content and low reducing sugar content.
The corn varieties supplied include three types of glutinous corn (Mibaek No. 2, Mihyeokchal, Heukjeom No. 2), one variety for popcorn (Oryun), and two varieties for feed (Dreamok, Gangilok).
The supply prices are 27,000 KRW/kg for glutinous corn, 22,000 KRW/2kg for feed corn, and 35,000 KRW/kg for popcorn. Applications can be made at the town and township agricultural consultation offices until the 23rd of next month, and supply is scheduled to begin in January next year.
Mibaek No. 2 is entirely white, has a thin pericarp, excellent taste, and strong resistance to pests and diseases.
Mihyeokchal is entirely black with excellent ears and high-quality multiple ears, while Heukjeom No. 2 is a speckled corn with mixed black and white colors.
Kim Won-sim, Director of Resource Development, said, “Using certified seed potatoes and corn reduces viruses and pests, maintains varietal characteristics (color, taste, stickiness, etc.), and greatly improves yield and quality. We hope farmers apply for the certified seed potatoes and corn within the deadline.”
