[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Samsung Securities announced on the 29th that the cumulative trading amount of its 'U.S. Stock Weekly Trading' service has surpassed 3 trillion won.
This achievement was reached 10 months after the service launched on February 7th this year, demonstrating rapid growth fueled by enthusiastic support from customers who previously faced difficulties accessing U.S. stock investments due to time and spatial constraints.
Samsung Securities explained, "With the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war increasing market volatility, trading surged as investors seeking to capitalize on this volatility and conservative investors aiming for risk management actively engaged in transactions. The number of heavy traders trading over $1 million per month has doubled compared to the early days of the service, maintaining popularity despite the overall stock market downturn."
This year, 24.7% of customers who newly traded U.S. stocks at Samsung Securities started trading through 'U.S. Stock Weekly Trading.' The high convenience and accessibility of 'U.S. Stock Weekly Trading' have lowered the entry barriers for new investors in U.S. stocks. Additionally, the most active users of 'U.S. Stock Weekly Trading' are men in their 30s, who mainly traded most actively between 12 PM and 1 PM. They were observed checking U.S. stock prices or investing in desired stocks during their lunch break.
Analyzing investment stocks, regular market U.S. stock investors ranked leveraged ETFs such as TQQQ, SQQQ, and SOXL, which utilize increased market volatility, among their top trades. Preferences for leading U.S. tech stocks like Tesla, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Apple remained high.
In contrast, the investment stocks of 'weekly trading' investors showed some differences from those mainly traded in the regular market. Among the top 20 traded stocks by 'U.S. Stock Weekly Trading' investors, 14 were individual companies or general index-tracking ETFs, whereas in the regular market, only 11 met this criterion.
This indicates a relatively lower proportion of leveraged ETF investments. Weekly trading offers investors the advantage of calm investment through sufficient research such as PB consultations or information searches, leading to a more pronounced focus on accumulating quality stocks.
Meanwhile, Samsung Securities continues to provide various investment content such as 'Weekly Trading Checkpoint,' 'Weekly Trading Now,' and 'Weekly Trading Snapshot' using virtual analysts through its official YouTube channel to offer high-quality investment information to 'U.S. Stock Weekly Trading' investors.
