Draft Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment for Continued Operation of Gori Unit 2, Ulsan Residents' Public Hearing Held

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Kori Nuclear Headquarters (Head Lee Kwang-hoon) held a public hearing on the 28th at the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to gather residents' opinions on the draft Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the continued operation of Kori Unit 2.
The Kori Nuclear Headquarters is conducting public hearings until December to collect opinions from residents of 16 basic local governments, including Busan (Gijang-gun, Haeundae-gu, Geumjeong-gu, Dongnae-gu, Yeonje-gu, Suyeong-gu, Nam-gu, Buk-gu, Dong-gu, Busanjin-gu), Ulsan (Ulju-gun, Jung-gu, Nam-gu, Buk-gu, Dong-gu), and Yangsan, which are designated as opinion collection target areas under the Nuclear Safety Act and related regulations.
On this day, the public hearing was targeted at residents of Jung-gu, Nam-gu, Buk-gu, and Dong-gu in Ulsan, as well as Yangsan, with about 100 local residents attending.
An official from KHNP explained the draft Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report for Kori Unit 2, presented the results of the public inspection, and explained the main contents. The session proceeded with questions from residents submitted in advance and answers, chaired by Professor Bang In-cheol of UNIST.

Lee Kwang-hoon, head of the Kori Nuclear Headquarters, said, “We have made efforts to communicate sufficiently with residents at the public hearing, and we will faithfully reflect the opinions collected on this day in the Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report to enhance public trust in the continued operation of Kori Unit 2.”
